Die interdisziplinäre Arbeitsgruppe ist an der UMG, Institut für Diagnostische und Interventionelle Radiologie und Klinik für Hämatologie und Medizinische Onkologie (haematologie-onkologie.umg.eu/de/forschung/arbeitsgruppen/ag-alves/), sowie am Max-Planck-Institut für Experimentelle Medizin (www.em.mpg.de) angesiedelt. Die Evaluierung und Optimierung von neuen diagnostischen Verfahren und innovativen Therapiekonzepten in der Onkologie, u.a. „bildgebungsgesteuerte chirurgische Verfahren“ oder „nanopartikelbasierte“ therapeutische Strategien sind Schwerpunkte. Hierfür werden krankheitsrelevante Mausmodelle, bspw. für Brust- Pankreas-, Kolon- und Lungentumore sowie für Entzündungs-, und Stoffwechselerkrankungen in Verbindung mit nicht-invasiven und hochauflösenden optischen und x-ray-basierten bildgebenden Verfahren zusammen mit Sonden eingesetzt.

Neben verschiedenen röntgenbasierten Bildgebungsverfahren, die krankheitsbedingte Strukturveränderungen im Organismus in vivo über die Zeit oder hochauflösend ex vivo in Gewebeproben darstellen, kommt die optische Bildgebung zur Visualisierung biologischer Prozesse in vivo oder ex vivo zur Charakterisierung von Tumoren zur Unterstützung von personalisierten Behandlungsstrategien zum Einsatz.

Die enge interdisziplinare Kooperation mit den klinischen Abteilungen an der Universitätsmedizin Göttingen und den Instituten am Göttinger Campus (Institut für Röntgenphysik- Prof. Tim Salditt, MPI für biophysikalische Chemie, DPZ- Prof. Rabea Hinkel und Prof. Susann Boretius, HAWK- Prof. W. Viöl und Prof. C. Russmann) und der Industrie (Miltenyi, NanoPET Pharma, Roche Pharma, Rowiak, iBA) als auch international durch die Teilnahme an verschiedenen EU Projekten ermöglicht die Translation der präklinischen Ergebnisse in die klinische Anwendung.
